WGN’s Robin Baumgarten and Paul Konrad will host the annual “McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade” Thursday, November 28 from 8-11am CT, live and in HD on Chicago’s Very Own WGN-TV, nationally on WGN America and worldwide on WGNtv.com. WGN’s Ana Belaval will report street-side. Viewers will be able to join the fun during the telecast on Twitter with the hashtag #WGNParade.
The 80th annual parade kicks off the 2013 holiday season on Chicago’s historic State Street with actress Drew Sidora as Grand Marshal. WGN’s goodwill ambassador and Chicago favorite Bozo the Clown will preside over the WGN-TV float, along with WGN’s Tom Skilling, Dan Ponce, Erin McElroy, Demetrius Ivory, Marcus Leshock, Dean Richards and Sean Lewis. The “McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade” will also include performances from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, The Joffrey Ballet, Million Dollar Quartet and Broadway in Chicago’s Rudolph, along with The Harlem Globetrotters, giant balloons, bands from across the country, high-stepping equestrians, fabulous floats, performance groups and Santa Claus.
Chrysler Group will also showcase its celebrity partners and media drivers in addition to providing the horsepower for the parade. The “Ram Weekend Workbench” host, Ryan Salzwedel, will be riding down State Street in the back of the Ram 1500 pickup truck used to tackle his weekend projects. In addition, hot off the announcement of his new full-time role co-hosting WGN’s “Chicago’s Best,” Elliott Bambrough will be introduced to the Chicago audience in the back of a Jeep Wrangler.
An encore of the “McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade” will also be seen Thanksgiving afternoon from 2-5pm CT on cable news channel CLTV in the Chicago; Rockford, IL; and South Bend, IN areas.
WGN first televised the parade in 1966 when it was called the “State Street Christmas Parade.”
