WGN-TV Features Halloween Treat on WGNTV.com “Creature Features” ‘Show Open’
26th Oct, 2012 | Posted in Broadcasting
As a Halloween treat to its viewers, WGN-TV has posted its classic “Creature Features” horror movie showcase open on WGNtv.com. The one-minute promo clip dates all the way back to 1973.
WGN-TV’s “Creature Features” introduced a generation of Chicagoans to Universal Studios’ horror classics. The memorable movie showcase aired from 1970 through 1976, mostly on Saturday nights, and opened to the haunting theme by composer Henry Mancini entitled “Experiment of Terror.” “The Creature” image was based on a character played by Lon Chaney, Sr. in the MGM 1927 lost silent film “London After Midnight.” The poems/scripts for the show were read by WGN announcers Marty McNeely and Carl Greyson.
