Starting Monday, October 29, 2012, during El Plebe’s midday show on LaLey 107.9, WGN News at Five Anchor Lourdes Duarte will provide daily news briefs to discuss the topics of the day. Together around 2:50pm each weekday, Lourdes and El Plebe will talk about those topics and other issues that matter most to the Latino community.
Lourdes Duarte currently hosts “Adelante Chicago” one of WGN-TV’s public affairs shows as well as WGN News at Five. Duarte joined WGN-TV five years ago as a general assignment reporter. Duarte maintains a strong presence in the Latino community. She has won several awards including her most recent Emmy Award for her work on “Hoy en Dia” and Society of Professional Journalists Awards for Minority Issues Reporting. Most recently, she won an Emmy Award for her work on “Adelante Chicago.”
Prior to joining WGN-TV in 2007, Duarte worked as a reporter/fill-in anchor at WJBK-TV in Detroit, Michigan and as a reporter for WXIN-TV in Indianapolis. While there, she launched and hosted the station’s public affairs program, “Hoy en Día,” and anchored daily news cut-ins for radio station WEDJ-FM. Duarte also served as a reporter in Peoria at WHOI-TV and at Metro Networks in Miami, Florida for radio stations WLRN-FM and WTMI-FM. Born in Chicago, she got her start here, working as a freelance reporter for Telemundo.
