Tribune Broadcasting today announced that Steve Farber has been named acting general manager for WGN-TV, Chicago, effective immediately. Farber, who is currently VP/Programming Operations for Tribune Broadcasting, is a broadcast veteran who was previously VP/General Manager of CLTV, Tribune Broadcasting’s 24-hour cable news operation in Chicago. He takes over from Marty Wilke, who has resigned from WGN-TV.
“WGN-TV is a special place with a proud history and a unique relationship with viewers in Chicago and around the country,” said Nils Larsen, Tribune Broadcasting president. “The station has a strong team of broadcast professionals that has established deep roots in the community, award-winning local news programming, and a consistent record of success with viewers and advertisers. Marty Wilke has ably led this team since 2008, and we wish her well.
“Steve Farber is the perfect choice to step in now and lead the talented people at WGN-TV,” Larsen continued. “He’s very familiar with the station’s staff and operations and can assume his new responsibilities without missing a beat.”
Farber joined CLTV in 1995 and served various roles of increasing responsibility, including News Director and General Manager. He spearheaded the successful integration of CLTV into WGN-TV in 2009, and served as VP/Operations for WGN-TV/CLTV for two years. As VP/Programming Operations for Tribune Broadcasting, Farber’s responsibilities include managing the digital multicast network, Antenna TV, and working on the development of new programming.
Farber is a native of Chicago’s northern suburbs and a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
