WGN-TV Presents “Celebrating Santo: Ron Goes Into the Hall”
Later this month, WGN-TV Chicago and WGN America will take Chicago Cubs fans to Cooperstown for the big day they’ve all waited for – Ron Santo’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 22nd. WGN News will have coverage of all the events and ceremonies that week beginning on Wednesday, July 18, including interviews with current Hall of Famers, Santo’s family and a celebration of his brilliant career. The Cubs-Cardinals game that Sunday afternoon will feature remembrances of ‘Ronnie’ from broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly.
The week will culminate in a half-hour special that Sunday night at 9:30 CDT on WGN-TV, hosted by WGN sports anchor Dan Roan. It will take a look at Santo’s accomplishments and showcase the events surrounding his long awaited induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Santo, a Cubs legend at third base, was also well known for his two decades in the WGN radio booth and for the millions of dollars he raised for juvenile diabetes research, the disease he fought throughout his entire career. Santo will become the Cubs’ 47th Hall of Famer.
