Judy Pielach Promoted To Managing Editor of WGN Radio News
WGN Radio today announced that newsroom coordinator Judy Pielach has been promoted to the position of managing editor. In her new role Pielach will be leading day-to-day operations of the WGN Radio news department, handling news assignments, coordinating coverage and setting and implementing newsroom policy and procedures in conjunction with WGN’s director of programming and news, Bill White. She will also continue to be heard as the station’s midday news anchor.
“I’m very pleased to announce Judy’s promotion to managing editor of WGN Radio news,” said White. “Judy is an accomplished news professional, and her leadership and excellent news judgment makes this a natural transition.”
Pielach joined WGN Radio in 1986 and has won several awards during her career at WGN. Her 2008 series on her struggle with breast cancer, “Why Not Me?”, and her 2007 series on suburban teen heroin addition, “Smack in the Suburbs”, earned her two Edward R. Murrow awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association. In 2007, she was also named best reporter by the Illinois Associated Press. Pielach is a Chicago native and a graduate of Southern Illinois University.
