The renowned Chicago radio station forms an alliance with the world’s most popular audio streaming service
TuneIn, a free service that lets people listen to music, sports, talk and news from around the world and WGN Radio, Chicago’s top-rated, local personality-based talk, news and sports radio station, today announced a strategic partnership to make authorized content from WGN (720 AM) available through TuneIn. A heritage station in Chicago, WGN is the flagship radio station of Tribune Company, which also owns WGN TV and the Chicago Tribune.
WGN is the latest broadcaster to align with the TuneIn service, which provides distribution to over 30 million monthly active listeners across over 150 connected devices such as smartphones and automobiles.
“WGN is known all over the country and has a rich history in Chicago,” said Kevin Straley, Vice President, Programming, TuneIn. “Our goal is to share all of the best programming from around the world with over 30 million monthly listeners, and partnering with WGN brings us one step closer to that goal.”
WGN is a high-powered 50,000 watt AM station whose nighttime signal covers much of the US and Canada. The station features news and locally produced content on a 24/7 basis and is home to many popular shows hosted by Jonathon Brandmeier, Mike McConnell, John Williams and Garry Meier. Its sports offerings include WGN Radio Sports Night, play-by-play broadcasts of Chicago Cubs baseball, Chicago Blackhawks hockey and Northwestern University football and basketball, and exclusive Cubs and Blackhawks programming. All content will be available on TuneIn, with the exception of Chicago Cubs baseball broadcasts due to Major League Baseball regulations.
“WGN is thrilled to extend our unique and original Chicago programming to new audiences through TuneIn,” said Tom Langmyer, WGN’s Vice President & General Manager. “This partnership greatly broadens the reach of one of America’s best known and most beloved stations, making it easier for a world of new listeners to discover the programming our fans already know and appreciate.”
Listeners around the world can enjoy WGN’s content for free through TuneIn on more than 150 devices including all smartphones and online at www.TuneIn.com.
