WGN Radio morning news anchor Steve Bertrand has been selected to receive the Communicator of the Year Award from the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University. The award recognizes exceptional professional achievement and is part of the university’s annual national awards program honoring distinguished alumni.
Bertrand is a 1985 graduate of Marquette University with degrees in Journalism and Political Science. He joined WGN Radio in 1985 and has been a fixture at the anchor chair since 1992, working with WGN greats Wally Philips, Roy Leonard, Spike O’Dell, Kathy & Judy, John Williams, Garry Meier and most recently, new morning host Jonathon Brandmeier. Bertrand has won several awards for anchoring and reporting, including a Chicago Headline Club Peter Lisagor Award. Away from WGN, Steve was the host of Meet the Writers for BarnesandNoble.com and has interviewed hundreds of the world’s top writers, establishing a national reputation in the publishing world.
Bertrand will be honored on April 28 during Alumni National Awards weekend on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
