PIX11’s Emmy Award winning PIX11 Morning News is pleased to announce the addition of Frances Rivera to the anchor team beginning August 29th. Rivera will anchor alongside Sukanya Krishnan weekdays from 6am to 9am.
A two-time Emmy Award winner, Rivera joins PIX11 from Boston where she anchored the 5, 6, and 11pm newscasts on WHDH (NBC) as well as the 10PM newscast on WLVI (CW). While at WHDH/WLVI, Rivera was recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Boston/New England Chapter with several Emmy nominations. In 2003 and 2007, she won the Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Anchor.’
“Frances is a key addition to the PIX11 Morning News family. When viewers come to watch, they’ll be impressed,” said News Director Bill Carey.
Frances also worked on-air at KWTV (CBS), in Oklahoma City. Before that she was with KFDX (NBC), in Wichita Falls, Texas. Rivera also spent four years working behind the scenes at CBS News on the “CBS This Morning” show. In addition, she spent a year with the network’s political unit on the campaign trail following the major events for CBS’s national coverage of the ’96 Presidential Election. During that time, she was a freelance co-host and reporter for the nationally syndicated PBS program “Asian America.”
“I am really looking forward to joining the PIX11 Morning News, a show that is essential for so many Tri-State viewers,” said Rivera. “I am thrilled to be back home near my family in New Jersey.”
Rivera attended college abroad and received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of the Philippines. She now lives in Manhattan with her husband and young daughter.
