“America’s Next Top Model” Judge & Photographer Nigel Barker to Headline Washington, DC’s 3rd Annual Fashion Beauty & Lifestyle Expo – Saturday, September 10th
The 3rd Annual “Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle Expo” (FBL), a local extravaganza featuring all-day runway fashion shows; free beauty makeovers; and the latest information on design and style trends, will return to the Washington, DC Convention Center on Saturday, September 10th, 12noon – 6PM. “America’s Next Top Model” photographer and judge Nigel Barker will headline this year’s event, which is produced by WDCW-TV, Tribune Broadcasting, the CW affiliate in Washington, DC and the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce.
FBL is a full day featuring beauty & fashion-related seminars; makeovers; hourly fashion shows; photo sessions with nationally-known models and other celebrities; and more than 60 booths of local beauty & fashion-related businesses.
Joining Barker as co-host will be International Fashion Designer Korto Momolu, best known for being the 1st runner-up on Cycle 5 of “Project Runway.” As one of the highlights of her FBL appearance, Momolu will be presenting samples of her much-anticipated “Korto Momolu 2011 Spring Collection.” She will have revealed the entire collection at New York Fashion Week a few days prior to FBL.
“We are very proud to have created a new tradition in Washington, DC with our annual Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle Expo,” said WDCW-TV Vice President & General Manager, Ashley Messina. “We attracted nearly 4,000 people at last fall’s FBL. This year we have more attractions, highly-regarded and nationally-known experts in the field of fashion, and many other compelling new additions to the day. It promises to be even bigger and more exciting than last year.”
Nigel Barker will host fashion shows and meet with attendees at FBL. Other events currently scheduled throughout the day include a beauty suite sponsored by DC’s Cole Stevens Salon. This suite will feature mini-spa services to the first 500 people. Several seminars throughout the day are also confirmed. Washington, DC football legend LaVar Arrington (and host of WDCW-TV weekly SportsWeek with LaVar Arrington) will headline a sports / fitness and lifestyle seminar. FBL will also include seminars on “What Not to Wear,” Zumba instruction with Denny Montas from F-I-T Now, and healthy eating featuring a top chef from Metro DC.
For the past twenty years, Nigel Barker has been taking the worlds of fashion, beauty and entertainment by storm. He’s regarded internationally as the renowned photographer and judge on the show America’s Next Top Model. Now in its 17th cycle, the show airs in more than 146 countries and is watched by nearly 100 million people per week. Barker’s presence in the fashion, beauty and entertainment industries has resulted in an array of exciting projects including films, commercials, spokesperson roles, his first book, photographic exhibitions, international editorial assignments and the creation of his own show, “The Shot” on VH1. Upon opening his own photo studio in 1996, Studio NB, in the now-fashionable Meat Packing District in Manhattan, Barker’s photo credits have included work in: GQ, Interview, Lucky, Tattler, Cover, Town & County, Seventeen, and more. His photographs have also been featured for Nicole Miller, Ted Baker, Lands’ End, Nine West, Lexus, Beefeater, Pamela Roland, Ford and Sony. Barker authored his first book Nigel Barker’s Beauty equation: Revealing a Better and More Beautiful You in 2010.
Momolu, a native of Liberia, West Africa, studied design at L ’Academies de Couturiers Design Institute in Ottawa, Canada. Upon graduating, she moved with her husband to Arkansas to raise their family. She worked several years as an independent designer while in Arkansas. After her season on “Project Runway,” she partnered as a designer with Dillard’s, Inc, with 70 stores nationwide.
The Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce is a 501 (c)(6) trade association that serves the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. Its purpose is to promote the business interests of those in the Fashion/Style industry through advocacy and education. GWFCC is the sole voice of fashion business in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. The FBL event will support the Washington, DC Fashion Foundation, a local 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization created to provide educational programs, workforce training initiatives, and networking and mentoring opportunities for aspiring fashion professionals and entrepreneurs.
