After a thorough search, Sun Sentinel names Howard Saltz, former Vice President of Content Development at MediaNews Group Interactive, Inc., as editor. “With more than 27 years of newspaper experience, a strong reputation in the digital realm and a commitment to integrity and excellence, Howard will work closely with our talented staff to grow audience across all platforms, drive engagement and help us own the digital space,” said Avido Khahaifa, Tribune’s SVP/Director of Florida Content.
Saltz came up through the ranks on the traditional side of the business, serving such positions as Deputy Managing Editor of The Denver Post and editor-in-chief of four MediaNews Group papers, before emerging as the Chief Editorial Executive for its interactive division. Recognized for his innovation and vision at MediaNews Group Inc., Saltz pioneered paid content models and strategies, laid the groundwork for newsroom convergence and served as a guardian of journalism ethics for the digital enterprises of more than 55 dailies and 100 plus weeklies.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to work for a newspaper embraced by the community, and blend the trusted print product with a unique multiplatform approach,” Saltz said. “Our industry is at a crossroads, and while there isn’t an obvious solution, what excites me is a chance to explore solutions that will leverage our foundation, the print operation, and set us apart.”
Saltz will be relocating from Denver to South Florida, and officially begins his new role on August 1.
