PHL17 Goes Dancin’ On Air – Again!
Dancin’ its way back on the air, PHL17, once known as “The Great Entertainer”, will be airing four unique, vintage one hour episodes of Dancin’ On Air, Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 8pm-10pm and 11pm-1am. Viewers will be invited to text their comments live during the broadcast.
Dancin’ On Air was broadcast live from October 12, 1981 to December 31, 1987, reaching across seven east coast states. Featuring a mix of reality, music, and dance, Dancin’ On Air spearheaded the return of the daily dance show in Philadelphia. Live from PHL17’s very own studio, the broadcast was also known to travel on-location to other East Coast favorites such as Penn’s Landing, Ocean City, Wildwood, and Hershey Park, to name a few.
Credited for jumpstarting the careers of over 200 celebrities, the show featured the now well-known talk show host and actress, Kelly Ripa, as well as Philadelphia’s very own Will Smith. Madonna made her first TV appearance singing “Everybody”, and Duran Duran graced the PHL17 studio with their very first American TV appearance, performing “Hungry Like the Wolf”.
Targeted to the 18-24 demo, Dancin’ On Air became an instant success in the nation’s 4th largest market. For the entire six years it was on air, it consistently pulled the highest teen rating in the entire Philadelphia DMA.
