“Today we lost one of the most beloved Cubs of all-time. Ron’s voice was the true soundtrack of summer in Chicago and his presence in the broadcast booth will forever be missed. Our hearts go out to the Santo family during this difficult time,” said WGN Radio Vice President & General Manager Tom Langmyer.
The legendary Chicago Cubs player and broadcaster died Thursday night in Arizona of complications from bladder cancer. Santo was the play-by-play color voice for WGN Radio for the past 21 years.
WGN Radio will provide continuing coverage on-air and online today on the passing of Ron Santo, including a special retrospective show on Ron’s life from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. hosted by David Kaplan and Dave Eanet. The station will also rebroadcast “Cubs Confidential with Ron Santo” at 12 p.m. – an intimate one-hour interview with Ron Santo hosted by David Kaplan. Listening is available online at wgnradio.com/listen and on mobile devices — including the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, BlackBerry and Droid. Details at wgnradio.com/mobile.
