WGN Radio afternoon drive host Garry Meier has been named to Talkers magazine’s 20th anniversary “Heaviest Hundred” list, which names the 100 most important radio talk show hosts of all time.
Meier was listed at #77, mentioning his “huge presence in Chicago radio for many years.” The late Bob Collins, legendary WGN Radio host from 1974-2000, was listed at #33 as the “master of the avuncular AM drive ringmaster talk style.”
Compiled by Talkers’ editorial staff, the list evaluated candidates based on “courage, effort, impact, longevity, potential, ratings, recognition, revenue, service, talent and uniqueness” in addition to their historical relevance.
