Dan Ponce Joins WGN News as Reporter
Dan Ponce joins WGN-TV as a general assignment reporter for WGN News effective September 1, according to Greg Caputo, WGN-TV news director. “As a Chicago native, Dan understands all the different communities that make up the region. An excellent writer and storyteller, he’s a reporter that has a unique ability to highlight the people inside the stories,” commented Caputo. “Dan is also an active participant in social media and we’re looking forward to him doing that here.”
Prior to WGN-TV, Ponce was touring with a group he founded called “Straight No Chaser,” an a cappella men’s singing group that recently toured the country and released three albums with Atlantic Records. Before focusing on his singing adventure, Ponce spent three years as a general assignment reporter at ABC-7 Chicago. In Lansing, Michigan, Ponce worked as a weekend morning anchor/general assignment reporter at WILX-TV.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the WGN team,” commented Ponce. “I’ve had a blast performing with “Straight No Chaser,” but it’s time for me to come home and get back to reporting in the country’s best news town.”
A Chicagoland native, Dan earned his master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. Fluent in Spanish, Dan is a member of the National National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
