To celebrate our nation’s independence, WGN-TV is airing “Chicago’s Best,” “Honor Flight,” and “Chicago’s Summer Blast” Sunday night on the 4th of July (all in HD)!
From 7-7:30pm, “Chicago’s Best” with hosts Ted Brunson and Brittney Payton, offers up an all-new episode, searching for the best classic foods and neighborhoods. Then, from 7:30-8pm, they search for Chicago’s best rib spot and find some of the city’s best vintage stores. An encore of the 7pm episode will run at 10pm.
Following “Chicago’s Best,” WGN News presents an encore of “Honor Flight” from 8-8:30pm. Recently honored with an Edward R. Murrow award for best documentary, “Honor Flight” is about the generation of military who protected our freedom 65 years ago. “Honor Flight Chicago,” is a volunteer program that gives World War II veterans an opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and visit the memorial constructed in their honor. This half hour special takes a look at some extraordinary veterans and documents their reaction to seeing the monument for the first time.
WGN-TV’s Paul Konrad and Eric Ferguson of 101.9 WTMX-FM co-host “Chicago’s Summer Blast,” from 8:30-9:30pm. The hour-long LIVE special will feature Chicago’s fireworks displays from three locations: Navy Pier, 59th Street and Montrose Beach. The city’s new Independence Day Fireworks will display more than 5,000 dazzling aerial devices and shells over Chicago’s lakefront. More than one million people typically attend the city’s fireworks events celebrating our nation’s birthday.
