RedEye Introduces a Weekend Edition
Chicago’s Free Daily To Add Another Issue to Its Week
CHICAGO, March 14, 2007 — RedEye, Chicago’s free daily newspaper, announced today it will introduce a new weekend edition that will debut in early May. The edition will offer Chicago readers another opportunity to experience RedEye’s unique brand of news, sports, entertainment and social buzz—and benefit from timely advertising information for their weekend shopping. It will be available on Saturday mornings and offered at the ultimate convenience of its readers—through free home delivery.
RedEye’s weekend edition will add to Chicago Tribune’s suite of products that provide targeting capabilities across demographic and geographic segments. Along with display ad opportunities, the edition will carry zoned preprint ads—an option that distinguishes it from RedEye’s current weekday offerings.
“We are committed to meeting the needs of our loyal readers, and our research indicates strong demand for a weekend edition,” said Brad Moore, general manager / RedEye. “Building on our focus of young adult consumers, we are excited about the new opportunities this will provide for our growing advertiser base.”
RedEye is launching a consumer awareness campaign to promote the opportunity to receive the free home-delivered weekend edition by registering online at redeyeweekend.com or by calling 1-877-4-REDEYE. RedEye also will be delivering samples of the issue to encourage registration.
RedEye currently distributes approximately 150,000 copies of each weekday edition throughout Chicago through more than 3,000 outlets, including newspaper boxes, train stations and select retail outlets. RedEye’s weekly readership reached 685,500 in 2006, up nearly 20 percent from 2005. It is expected to deliver up to 100,000 copies of the new weekend edition.
