myphl17 to Air 42nd Annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon on Labor Day Weekend
PHILADELPHIA, AUGUST 30, 2007 — Myphl17 is set to air the 2007 Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. The telethon, starring MDA national chairman and number-one volunteer Jerry Lewis, will air on myphl17 beginning Sunday night, September 2nd at 11:00pm and will continue through Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd, to 7:00pm. Locally, myphl17 Director of Community Relations Steve Highsmith, will emcee the tri state area coverage of the telethon along with Vince DeMentri, Lori Delgado and Tim Furlong of myphl17 News at Ten Powered by NBC10. Families assisted by Philadelphia based MDA organizations will also be highlighted throughout the broadcast. Some of those to be featured are: Patrick Hilferty and family of Drexel Hill, Gillian Keener and family of Aston, Alex Pierce and family of Egg Harbor, NJ, Jagger DeMarco and family of Princeton, NJ and Michele Boardman and family of Harleysville.
The MDA Telethon is a non-stop variety show with round-the-clock entertainment by stars from Hollywood to Broadway and performances by international recording artists. Stars slated to appear are: Celine Dion, Thelma Houston, Ronn Lucas, Jay Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, George Wallace, Maureen McGovern, Norm Crosby, Jack Jones, Max Alexander, Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay, Ivanka Trump, Ray Romano, Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie and more.
Returning to his customary role as telethon anchor, Ed McMahon will be assisted by co-hosts Jann Carl, Norm Crosby, Tom Bergeron, Tony Orlando and Billy Gilman.
The telethon will also feature many local check presentations from major corporations and community groups such as the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local #22, ACME & Acosta Supermarkets, Schaffer’s Harley Davidson, Pizza Hut, Genuardis, Lowe’s, Tall Cedars and more.
The 2007 Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon hopes to exceed its 2006 total of $61 million to support MDA programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
