PHILADELPHIA, February 25, 2008 –During myphl17’s Crime Time Tuesday broadcasts of Street Patrol and Jail from 8-10pm, the station will begin airing :30 second announcements which will provide information profiling Philadelphia’s Most Wanted Criminals. Myphl17’s Director of Community Relations Steve Highsmith will host the announcements.
“With the help of our viewers we can help the Philly PD clean up the streets of this great city,” says Vice President and General Manager Vince Giannini.” “By broadcasting the information now published on the Philadelphia Police Department’s website (www.ppdonline.org), our goal is to encourage the community to play their part in getting these criminals off our streets.”
“We are not asking citizens to take the law into their own hands,” points out Highsmith. “The spots stress that approaching and apprehending these people is the job of law enforcement. By broadcasting names and photos, we hope citizens may be able to provide useful leads to police to capture these fugitives.”
Street Patrol and Jail, produced by John Langley, the creator of the TV show Cops, are the two highest rated prime time programs on myphl17. “The popularity of these shows demonstrates the high level of concern and interest viewers have in crime and law enforcement,” says Giannini. “We hope to engage our viewers to have a positive impact to make this great city a safer city as well.”
Residents are urged to call 215-686-TIPS or 911 if they have any information on the whereabouts of these individuals.
