CHICAGO, March 20, 2008 –WGN-TV announced today that the station will broadcast all of its 2008 regular season Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox home and away games in 1080i high definition. The station will produce 71 Chicago Cubs telecasts and 54 Chicago White Sox telecasts in HDTV. Sixty-four Cubs games and 29 White Sox games will air on WGN-DT 9.1. Eight Cubs games and 25 Sox games will air on WCIU-DT 26.1.
WGN-TV has always been recognized as a technological leader in the field of sports broadcasting. This announcement adds another milestone to the station’s rich history which includes being the first station to develop the centerfield camera angle and one of the first stations to broadcast baseball in color.
Len Kasper and Bob Brenly will return to the Cubs broadcast booth for the 2008 season as the voices of the Cubs on WGN-TV and WCIU. The White Sox broadcast team of play-by-play announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson and analyst Darrin Jackson will begin their ninth season together on WGN-TV and WCIU. The WGN Sports Emmy Award-winning production team will produce all WGN-TV and WCIU Chicago Cubs and White Sox games.
