WGN-TV to Offer Full Slate of Programming for Cubs Opening Day Festivities Including Live Unveiling of Ernie Banks Statue and the Home Opener in HD
CHICAGO, March 21, 2008–WGN-TV will offer a full slate of programming featuring Chicago Cubs Opening Day festivities on Monday, March 31, 2008. The lineup will include WGN Morning News broadcasting live from Wrigley Field; the hour-long special Honoring Ernie; the pre-game special Next Year is Here; the Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers home opener and The 10th Inning post-game analysis show.
Starting with WGN Morning News at 6:30am, anchors Larry Potash and Robin Baumgarten will take ‘the big show’ on the road as they broadcast from the Skybox on Sheffield rooftop. Weather anchor Paul Konrad and WGN News at Nine sports anchor Dan Roan will report live from third base inside Wrigley field. Around Town reporter Ana Belaval will broadcast from the new Harry Caray’s Tavern in Wrigleyville.
At 10am, WGN-TV will continue its live Opening Day coverage with the HD special Honoring Ernie. Hosted by Dan Roan, the hour-long program will cover the live unveiling of the new Ernie Banks statue outside Wrigley Field. The special will honor the legendary Cubs Hall of Fame player, better known as “Mr. Cub” who spent his entire Major League career, from 1953-1971, with the Chicago Cubs. He was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. Hall of Famer Hank Aaron and other dignitaries are expected to be on hand to join in the celebration.
Next Year is Here, WGN-TV’s pre-game special will air at 12:30pm in HD. Host Dan Roan will take Cub fans to Wrigley Field for all the Opening Day excitement and pageantry.
The Chicago Cubs will take on their I-94 rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers at 1:20pm. The home opener will air in HD followed by The 10th Inning post-game analysis show, also broadcast in HD.
