Encore Presentations of “WGN at 60” and “Cubs Forever” to Air on WGN-TV Saturday Starting at 6pm
CHICAGO, April 30, 2008–WGN-TV will air encore presentations of its two anniversary specials “WGN at 60: Chicago’s Very Own” and “Cubs Forever: Celebrating 60 Years of WGN-TV and the Chicago Cubs” on Saturday, May 3 from 6-9pm.
“WGN at 60: Chicago’s Very Own,” a one-hour retrospective hosted by Jim Belushi, will air from 6-7pm. The special offers a look back at some of WGN-TV’s history-making broadcasts including the first Cubs night game at Wrigley Field on 8/8/88, the opening of Al Capone’s vaults by Geraldo Rivera, the first co-anchored newscast in the country and other memorable firsts. Viewers will also see clips of WGN-TV favorites like “Bozo’s Circus,” “Ray Rayner and His Friends,” “Garfield Goose & Friends,” “Ding Dong School,” “Romper Room,” and “The Blue Fairy.” The “WGN at 60: Chicago’s Very Own” special is also scheduled to air again on July 5 at 6pm.
“Cubs Forever : Celebrating 60 Years of WGN-TV and the Chicago Cubs,” a two-hour retrospective will air from 7-9pm. The program celebrates the 60th anniversary of the first WGN-TV Cubs telecast. It explores the romance between the Cubs, WGN and the fans while reliving some of the greatest moments and games in Cubs history with its players, fans and coaches. Featured games include the Cubs 1984 division clincher, Sammy Sosa’s 62nd home run, Don Cardwell’s no-hitter, Ernie Banks 500th home run and Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game. The program also includes a tribute to the broadcast legends who built WGN Sports including Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray, Jack Rosenberg, Arne Harris, and Steve Stone. Encore presentations of the Cubs two-hour special (subject to change) are slated to run June 21 at 10pm, July 5 at 7pm and August 16 at 4pm.
