WGN-TV Announces 2008-09 Chicago Bulls Schedule on WGN-TV and WCIU-TV for First Time
CHICAGO, September 2, 2008 –WGN-TV and WCIU-TV will air a total of 35 Chicago Bulls games during the 2008-2009 basketball season. WGN-TV will air 24 regular-season contests, plus one preseason contest. Of these, 14 regular-season games and one preseason game will appear nationally on WGN America. Rounding out the broadcast schedule, WCIU-TV will televise 10 games.
The Bulls tip off on WGN-TV against former coach Scott Skiles and the division rival Milwaukee Bucks on October 28. On November 19, the Bulls battle the up-and-coming Portland Trailblazers along with last year’s #1 pick Greg Oden. On December 23, the Bulls take on their division rivals, the Detroit Pistons. On December 31 and February 24, Chicago welcomes big man Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic into the United Center. Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets face the Bulls on March 14. On March 17, the Bulls tip off against the World Champion Boston Celtics. And finally, the Bulls battle 2008 MVP Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson and the LA Lakers on March 21.
On WCIU-TV, viewers can catch the Bulls when they head to Cleveland to face LeBron James and the Cavaliers on November 5. On February 3, the Bulls take on Yao Ming and the Rockets in Houston.
This season, the Bulls will be led by veteran Luol Deng and the #1 overall pick of the 2008 draft, former University of Memphis point guard and Chicago native Derrick Rose. New head coach Vinny Del Negro will bring an up-tempo, hard-nosed style of play to this season’s team.
Calling the action for every Bulls game this season will be Neil Funk and Stacey King. After 17 seasons as the Bulls’ radio play-by-play announcer, Funk moves over to TV, where he will join King. Long-time Bulls’ announcer Johnny “Red” Kerr rounds out the broadcast team with appearances during pregame and halftime shows for all Bulls home games on WGN-TV and WCIU-TV. WGN Sports’ Emmy Award-winning production team will produce all games.
