CHICAGO, March 5, 2009 –WGN-TV will premiere “A Cubs Fantasy: A Week at the Randy Hundley Camp,” narrated by Cubs announcer Len Kasper, on Saturday, March 14 from 6:30–7pm/CST. The WGN-TV original production will repeat on Sunday, March 15 from 10:30-11pm/CST and then air again on both WGN-TV and WGN America on Saturday, April 4 from 9:30-10pm/CST.
Randy Hundley’s Baseball Camp dates back to 1982 when former Cub catcher Randy Hundley invented the major league baseball fantasy camp at the Cubs spring training complex in Mesa, Arizona. Each January, die-hard Cub fans are able to live out their dream of wearing a Cub uniform for a week that culminates in a full baseball game at Hohokam Stadium, the Cubs’ spring park. The coaches for the camp are a ‘who’s who’ of past Cub greats including Glenn Beckert, Ron Santo, Don Kessinger, Leon Durham, Jody Davis and many others.
“A Cubs Fantasy” will incorporate vintage spring training footage with action from this year’s camp. The half-hour special will also explore the unique brotherhood formed by Cub greats from the 1969 and 1984 teams.
WGN-TV will also rebroadcast “Cubs Forever: Celebrating 60 Years of WGN-TV and the Chicago Cubs” from 7-9pm/CST on April 4. “Cubs Forever,” an original WGN-TV production, celebrates the 60-year romance between the Cubs, WGN and the fans with moments and memories as told by the people who made them.
The special includes segments on Ernie Banks’ 500th home run, Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game, Sammy Sosa’s 62nd home run, the first Cubs broadcast on WGN-TV from April 16, 1948, and no-hitters by Don Cardwell, Milt Pappas and Ken Holtzman.
