RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI) and CLTV, Chicagoland Television, announced today that the local news channel will be available to RCN subscribers starting on October 15.
RCN Corporation is a leading provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet, and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, in Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, PA, New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington D.C, as well as high-capacity transport services to carrier and large enterprise customers.
CLTV moved operations to WGN-TV in Chicago in August, creating a shared newsroom with additional resources for covering stories of local importance.
“We are excited to bring our mix of local breaking news, weather and award-winning feature programming to additional viewers throughout the city,” said Steve Farber, CLTV General Manager. “Chicagoans can look forward to expanded coverage of major events, including the 2010 elections.”
CLTV has served viewers in the Chicagoland area for more than 16 years.
RCN’s Chicago market serves Chicago’s lakefront, including Lincoln Park, Lake View, Gold Coast, Streeterville, Rogers Park and Village of Skokie.
RCN’s SVP of Operations and Chicago General Manager Tom McKay explained, “Just recently, CLTV made their channel available to RCN and we moved quickly to add this popular regional news station. We’re extremely pleased to offer our customers another news choice, one that provides specialty local programming.”
The 24-hour news channel will air on RCN’s channel #31.
McKay continued, “This channel is in high demand so we’re confident that our customers will appreciate its addition.”
